Overview
The AnyChart Circular Gauge extension for Qlik provides a compact, highly customizable visualization for displaying KPIs in a radial layout. Ideal for dashboards where space efficiency is key, the gauge can show one or multiple values using pointers—each representing a single aggregated measure or a dimension split.
You can configure a wide range of visual and behavioral options to tailor the chart to your needs. Define precise layout using the Axis Settings , including radius and swipe angle , custom start angles , and static or dynamic value ranges . Add Reference Lines and Reference Ranges to highlight key thresholds and create intuitive zones within the gauge.
The chart supports Text and Image Labels , making it easy to include contextual information or branding directly inside the gauge area. Use Presentation settings to fine-tune structural details like the cap , frame , and adaptive mode , which ensures the chart remains readable even at smaller sizes.
Additionally, the Colors and Legend section lets you apply custom coloring logic—by dimension, measure, or expression—and configure legends for improved readability. Combined, these features make the Circular Gauge a versatile choice for tracking single metrics or comparing multiple KPIs in a single glance.
Quick Start
This quick tutorial explains how to create a basic Circular Gauge .
First of all, add an empty chart to your sheet:
- Go to Custom objects > AnyChart in the assets panel.
- Drag an empty AnyChart Circular Gauge chart to the sheet.
Then add a measure to represent the KPI value:
- Go to Measures in the properties panel.
- Click Add Measure and select a dimension.
(Optional) Add a dimension to split the measure into multiple pointers:
- Go to Dimensions in the properties panel.
- Click Add Dimension and select a dimension.
Please note that you can also create dimensions and measures from fields or add them by clicking on buttons on the empty chart.
Dimension and Measure
Measure
To add a measure, do the following:
- Go to Measures in the properties panel.
- Click Add measure and select a measure.
The Circular Gauge can display a single measure without any dimensions. In this case, the chart shows a single pointer representing the total aggregated value. However, when a dimension is added, the measure is broken down by dimension values—each value is then displayed as a separate pointer on the gauge.
Dimension
To add a dimension, do the following:
- Go to Dimensions in the properties panel.
- Click Add dimension and select a dimension.
Adding a dimension splits the measure by its distinct values. Each dimension value is represented by a separate pointer on the gauge, allowing you to compare the same metric (e.g., Profit) across multiple categories (e.g., Sales Channels). This turns the gauge into a comparative visualization while still maintaining a compact, single-metric view.
Axis Settings
The Axis settings panel allows you to control how the gauge axis behaves and appears, including its size, sweep angle, scale range, and starting position.
Radius and Swipe Angle
- Axis radius – Controls the overall size of the gauge arc relative to the chart area. The value is set as a percentage.
- Axis swipe angle – Defines how wide the gauge arc is (e.g., a full circle is 360°, a semi-circle is 180°, etc.). You can use this to fit the gauge into narrow layouts or compact dashboards.
Start Angle
By default, the gauge starts from the axis swipe angle (Auto mode), but enabling Custom lets you specify a precise angle (in degrees) for where the arc begins.
Range
The axis range determines the minimum and maximum values displayed on the gauge. In Auto mode, the chart calculates this based on the measure values. Switching to Custom allows you to define:
- Mode – Choose between Min, Max, or Min/Max
- Min / Max – Enter static values or Qlik expressions to set dynamic boundaries
This is useful for normalizing gauges across multiple charts or highlighting specific thresholds.
Styling
The Styling subsection includes toggles for displaying and customizing:
- Major ticks
- Minor ticks
- Axis line
- Labels
Each toggle can be expanded to access more detailed appearance settings, such as color, font, size, and visibility.
Reference Lines and Ranges
Reference lines and ranges allow you to highlight key thresholds or important segments on the gauge. These visual markers support static values or dynamic expressions and can be fully styled and labeled.
All configuration options can be found under the Properties Panel → Add-ons .
Reference Lines
A Reference Line appears as a thin stroke across the gauge scale, marking a specific value—often used to indicate a threshold or target—and with label styling applied, it can deliver clear contextual cues such as “Target” or “Warning,” positioned precisely along the arc (as illustrated below).
To add a reference line, go to Add-ons → Reference line and click the Add button.
This will create a new reference line with multiple settings for configuring its appearance, position, and label.
Core settings include:
- Label
- Value
- Color
- Single Color
- By expression
- Style
- Solid
- Dashed
- Dotted
- Thickness
- Position
- Inside
- Outside
- Height
In addition, enabling the Show label checkmark reveals more configuration options for the reference line label:
- Label position
- Align
- Start
- Center
- End
- Direction
- Horizontal
- Radial
- Arc
- Font settings toggle
- Font Style
- Font Color
- Auto font size toggle
- Font size
- Font Family
To delete a reference line, press the Delete button at the bottom of that reference line’s settings block.
Reference Ranges
The Reference Range appears as a colored arc segment along the gauge’s scale. It visually highlights a value range, and when configured with a label, adds extra context like thresholds or target zones. For example, a yellow arc labeled “Reference Range Label” spanning 40–90% creates an intuitive emphasis zone on the gauge (as shown below).
To add a Reference Range – go to Add-ons → Reference Range and click the Add button.
This will create a new Reference Range with multiple settings fields to configure the appearance, position, and labeling of the range.
Core settings include:
- Label
- Start value
- End value
- Color
- Single color
- By expression
- Stroke thickness up/down
- Stroke thickness left/right
- Stroke color
- Opacity
- Start height
- End height
- Offset
- Position
- Inside
- Outside
Just like with Reference Lines, you can enable the Show label checkmark to configure the label for this range with the following options:
- Label position
- Align
- Start
- Center
- End
- Direction
- Horizontal
- Radial
- Arc
- Font settings toggle
- Font Style
- Font Color
- Auto font size toggle
- Font size
- Font Family
To delete a Reference Range, press the Delete button at the bottom of its settings block.
Labels
Labels are standalone elements that can be placed anywhere on the gauge. They are useful for displaying additional static content, such as captions, KPIs, decorative markers, or logos. Unlike reference lines and ranges, labels are not tied to specific values or scale—they float freely within the gauge space.
Each label can be set to one of two types: Text or Image. Depending on the selected type, different configuration options are available.
Text Type
When the Text type is selected, the following settings are available:
- Label
- Text

Adaptive mode
Adaptive mode allows the Circular Gauge to function as a compact indicator, minimizing visual elements to display only the most essential parts of the chart. This is useful when embedding the chart in limited space or using it as a minimalistic KPI widget.
To enable adaptive mode, go to Presentation → Adaptive mode and check the box. When active, the chart automatically adjusts its layout to fit the available space, preserving visibility for critical components.
If adaptive mode is disabled, a Font size input becomes available. This setting acts as a multiplier for default label sizes, allowing you to fine-tune font scaling manually and maintain a consistent appearance across different chart sizes.
